We asked our own CEO Kim Hutcheon to share her thoughts regarding women in CEO roles.

Q: Looking back, what advice do you wish you could have given your younger self?

A: I would tell my younger self that growth and being comfortable are not possible together. You have to put yourself out there in uncomfortable ways.  Like working on building connections at networking events, speaking up in meetings, stepping outside your comfort zone to stretch your capabilities. You have to tell people what you think, what you want, and what you’re capable of—and that’s going to be scary. The more you do it, the more your confidence grows. Whenever I find myself in a situation that is outside my comfort zone I chant in my head... Be BRAVE & STRONG, repeat!

Q: Is there anything you would have done differently?

A: Early in my career, I thought I had to do everything myself and it had to be perfect! If I could go back and change something it would be to build a strong network of mentors and experts.  I found that it is better to find experts for different tasks or parts of your life that you can tap for guidance. Be honest and transparent around your own personal limitations, ask for help, and always share your knowledge to help others whenever you can, without expectations!

I was lucky to find a career path that allows me to do the things I love. I recognize the gift of having amazing women leaders around me who helped me gain the skills essential to running a top-producing real estate team.  Watching other women succeed and follow their passion gave me the confidence to bring the SimplyTC community to YOU!
